Sean Clifford

Attorney

For more than 25 years, Sean Clifford has worked in Colorado courtrooms on behalf of people who were harmed by others. A seasoned trial attorney and former prosecutor, Sean joined Fuicelli & Lee Injury Lawyers as Of Counsel to continue doing what drew him to law in the first place: helping people.

Sean began his career in 1999 at the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, prosecuting misdemeanor and traffic cases, including DUIs and car crashes. He quickly advanced to juvenile and felony prosecutions and went on to try nearly every type of case, from theft and burglary to robbery, sexual assault and homicide. In 2009, he was asked to establish the first dedicated elder abuse unit in Colorado, where he prosecuted cases on behalf of some of the state’s most vulnerable residents.

In 2012, Sean joined the Colorado Attorney General’s Office as First Assistant Attorney General and head of the Financial Fraud Unit. He led a team of attorneys, criminal investigators, forensic auditors, paralegals and support staff investigating and prosecuting securities and insurance fraud statewide. Under his leadership, the unit was restructured, its enforcement priorities were refocused, and the number of cases investigated and charged grew significantly. He regularly used the statewide grand jury to secure indictments, many in high-profile cases covered by the media.

Sean’s years at the Attorney General’s Office gave him a rare, inside view of how insurance companies operate. He worked closely with carriers to build fraud cases and, for 14 years, led a regular training seminar teaching industry personnel how to identify and document fraud, write reports and testify. He was also directly involved in the legislative process, serving as the primary drafter of the statutory language defining the crime of insurance fraud in Colorado. Today, his clients benefit from that experience. Sean understands how insurers investigate, evaluate and document claims, and he knows what it takes to build a case that holds up.

In 2025, Sean received the National Prosecutor of the Year Award for Insurance Fraud from the Coalition Against Insurance Fraud in Washington, D.C., an honor given to just one prosecutor in the country each year. He also received the Attorney General’s Office Outstanding Achievement Award in two separate years. Sean has presented continuing legal education programs for the Colorado Bar Association and the Colorado District Attorneys’ Council, and he was featured on Tom Martino’s Troubleshooter television program discussing a contractor fraud case he tried. He is a member of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association.

Throughout his career as a prosecutor, the most rewarding part of Sean’s work was helping victims, and he now brings that same commitment to injured people and their families in his civil practice.

Sean earned his law degree from the University of Minnesota in 1996 and his Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin in 1993, with a double major in economics and philosophy. He is admitted to practice in Colorado.

Outside the office, Sean enjoys cycling, running and golf.
