What are the Most Dangerous Intersections in Denver?

Denver and the surrounding suburbs are not the easiest areas to operate a vehicle in, particularly when the colder weather sets in. This is especially true because of how many visitors flock to the area each year. Here, we want to discuss some of the most dangerous intersections throughout the Denver area that you need to be aware of. Many of these, you probably already know. However, as you read this list, you can keep these locations in mind as you operate your vehicle throughout the city.

The Data is Slim, But These Intersections Pose Problems

The Denver Police Department provided an updated list of the top 10 intersections in the city where most motor vehicle accidents occurred in early 2021. When examining past lists provided by the police department, we can see that most of these intersections have remained dangerous for some time.

Provided by Westworld, we can see that traffic volume has remained lower at these intersections since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, but even this data is a bit older now. It is likely that traffic has continued to increase since.

Counting up from the least (1) to most dangerous (10) of the “dangerous intersections” is as follows:

  1. Colorado Boulevard and East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard
  2. West Colfax Avenue and Kalamath Street
  3. Park Avenue West and North Globeville Road
  4. South Quebec Street and East Alameda Avenue
  5. West Alameda Avenue and South Santa Fe Drive
  6. Colorado Boulevard and East 40th Avenue
  7. North Tower Road and East 56th Avenue
  8. West Mississippi Avenue and South Platte River Drive
  9. West Mississippi Avenue and South Santa Fe Drive
  10. Colorado Boulevard and East Colfax Avenue

The intersection with the most accidents in all of 2021 during this study time frame was Colorado Boulevard and East Colfax Avenue, a known trouble area for drivers.

The reality is that driving in Denver is not easy. Not only is this city crowded with people who actually live here, but visitors flock to the area at just about every point during the year. We have individuals coming here for the beautiful summer hiking scenery and others coming for their usual winter fun activities.

Of course, when the snow starts to fall, and things begin to ice over, the situation does become more dangerous. Even though most locals understand how to operate in these increasingly hazardous conditions during the winter, visitors may not have as much experience operating on frozen terrain.

What if an Accident Occurs?

If you or somebody you care about has been injured in an accident caused by the actions of another driver at an intersection, we encourage you to reach out to an attorney immediately. A Denver car accident lawyer will be your advocate when working to recover compensation from the at-fault driver. They will investigate the incident, gather all the evidence needed to prove liability, and handle any communication necessary with the insurance carriers. Your attorney will be responsible for negotiating a fair settlement on your behalf so you can recover compensation for medical bills, property damage expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering damages.
