As we bring in a new year, we are thrilled to announce that renowned prosecutor, Matthew Durkin, has joined the Fuicelli & Lee team. With 25 years of experience, Durkin has proven to be a knowledgeable and formidable opponent in the courtroom.

Most recently, Durkin served our community as a Jefferson County Chief Deputy District Attorney. Prior to that, he led the Criminal Justice Section of the Colorado Attorney General’s Office as Deputy Attorney General. In his impressive career as a prosecutor, Durkin took numerous high-profile cases to court, including People v Ralph Candelario (featured on NBC’s Dateline in their episode “Tangled”) and the well-known case People v Frederick Mueller (featured on Dateline’s episode “Mystery at Cottonwood Creek” and CBS’s 48 Hours.) In People v Travis Cook, Mr. Cook was driving through residential areas at speeds up to 90 mph in a fit of road rage, when he ran a stop sign and pulverized the vehicle of Raylene Speechley, an elementary school teacher on her way to purchase gifts for her students. While Cook walked away from the accident, Speechley was not as lucky. Suffering from devastating injuries such as shattered arms, wrists, feet, knees, and collarbone; her life was changed forever. The jury agreed with Durkin that this was an unforgiveable act, and found Travis Cook guilty of Vehicular Assault.

With multiple appearances on television shows such as NBC’s Dateline and CBS’s 48 Hours, Durkin has made a name for himself as a tireless advocate for victims of homicide, physical and sexual abuse against children, domestic violence, drug trafficking, and traffic offenses. After years of campaigning for victims in the criminal court, Durkin has turned his attention to the civil court. Specializing in wrongful death, bad faith insurance claims, and catastrophic injuries, Durkin looks forward to assisting victims obtain justice after these life-altering events.

“For 25 years it has been my honor to fight for victims of crimes. I am excited to refocus my passion towards seeking justice for those have been injured due to another’s negligence,” Durkin says.
