Colorado Car Accident Attorneys | Our State’s Car Accident Statistics

Sadly, the state of Colorado has its share of automobile accidents, although the number of fatal crashes annually has decreased steadily.

Consider the following U.S. and Colorado statistics:

  • In the U.S. an average of 92 people die each day in a motor vehicle crash—one every 16 minutes.
  • Approximately 2,362,000 Americans are injured in car accidents each year.
  • The NHTSA estimates 12,174 lives were saved in 2012 through the use of safety restraints, yet only about 71 percent of Americans routinely buckle up.
  • Speed is the most prevalent factor contributing to traffic collisions, with distracted driving coming in second.
  • In 2002, there were 677 fatal car collisions in Colorado. By 2014, that number had decreased to 441—a 34.9% reduction.
  • August, 2002, had the highest number of automobile collision fatalities in Colorado, with May, June and July of 2002 following closely.
  • In 2014, 225 of the Colorado traffic fatalities were drivers of an automobile, while 92 were passengers in an automobile. 89 fatalities were motorcyclists, 62 were pedestrians, and 10 were riding a bicycle.
  • Regarding holiday traffic fatalities, Colorado experiences the highest number on Labor Day, followed closely by Memorial Day, then the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s.
  • A large percentage of those holiday fatalities involved alcohol.
  • Injuries from car collisions in Colorado increased from 3,325 in 2013 to 3,427 in 2014.
  • DUI fatal and injury crashes also increased in Colorado from 2013 to 2014—from 480-508.
  • Colorado State Patrol issued 63,573 speeding violation tickets in 2013, and 72,627 in 2014.

Auto Accidents—Changing Lives and Futures

Auto accidents often change the lives of the victim as well as their family members. Some of the results of a serious auto accident include pain and suffering, loss of current and future income, impaired physical ability, and loss of enjoyment of life.

Unfortunately, insurance companies don’t always agree on how much you need to put your life back together again. As a result, they usually offer accident victims a low-ball settlement offer that is pushed hard as a “take it or leave it” offer. As a result, many car accident victims agree to the settlement without first speaking to an experienced lawyer. Never sign any settlement before first speaking to one of our Colorado car accident attorneys. A Denver personal injury attorney at Fuicelli & Lee will work hard to ensure you receive an equitable settlement for your injuries and damages.
