Understanding Denver Road Rash Injuries

The most important piece of protective equipment any rider can wear is a helmet. Additional protective clothing may include special kinds of jackets, gloves, boots, and pants. Jackets made for cyclists are typically constructed of leather or specialized nylon fabrics like cordura or Kevlar. Commonly, these jackets have heavy padding in the elbow, shoulder, and spine areas.

Gloves are usually made of leather or Kevlar, and a few may offer extra carbon fiber knuckle protection. Boots designed for sport riding normally include reinforcing plastic caps on the toe and ankle areas. Protective pants are typically leather, cordura, or Kevlar.

In the event of contact with the road surface during an accident, these special materials will take the damage from the friction instead of your skin. Thus, sparing a rider painful, disfiguring, debilitating, and potentially life-threatening injuries.
